155 and Done

Hitting 155mph three times going on the autobahn from Munich to Innsbruck, I wondered what it would be like to go 180 or 190. Of course most street legal cars are limited at 155 for several reasons. For one, most tires cannot handle much higher speeds without ripping to shreds and most drivers are not skilled to control the car at its limits. This whole no speeds limits craziness is setting me up for major disappointment when I get back to the states.

There is another aspect of driving in germany that is very different from the states. Blasting through the autobahn, drivers become immediately aware of a fast approaching car and give up the left lane without the need to flash headlights or to hit the brakes. And this is crucial, because the laws in Germany are strictly enforced. For instance unlike the states, where passing on the right and tailgating is rarely ever enforced, in germany it's strictly forbidden.

As I approached the Alps from the north and passed by Garmisch-Partenkirchen(sight of another winter Olympics) the speeds were greatly reduced, but what unfolded were stunning views and curved roads that were just as fun to carve up as going to full blast on autobahn. Once I checked in to my hotel, I was greeted by this view from my room:

Now, how am I supposed to work like this?
